Sam is a big Black man. Put him in a T-shirt that reads “Proud to Be Catholic,” and people notice. Sam knows that image is striking. He wears his Catholic faith openly, where people can see it.

In the early 1990s, newly married and starting a family with Tracy, Sam prayed to Our Lady for a way to provide for his growing family and share the Gospel. He was already wearing faith-themed shirts everywhere he went. He wanted shirts that expressed his Catholic faith with the quality and conviction he felt it deserved.

That small beginning grew into Totally Catholic Tees, a family business Sam and Tracy built together over 20 years.

Sam’s witness reaches beyond what he wears. He grew up in Blythe, California, on welfare, and has faced mental health struggles. He attends daily Mass and has built a life rooted in faith, family, and service. He and Tracy have been married for more than 30 years. They have eight children and thirteen grandchildren.

At age 45, Sam returned to school, earned his master’s degree, became a counselor, and opened his own practice. His Catholic belief in the dignity of every person shapes how he meets people: with empathy, trust, and respect. He helps couples and families work through painful seasons and find a path toward healing.

A shirt can catch someone’s eye. Sam’s deeper witness is the faith he brings into his family, his work, and the way he cares for people. He is proud to be Catholic, and he lives that faith where others can see it.
